The city network does not always supply water that can go straight into a premium hotel room. The pipes themselves become a source of rust, solids and bacteria. Yellow or cloudy tap water and a chlorine smell undo the service, whatever the interiors look like.
International hotel chains rely on their own standards and European drinking-water guidance. The higher the property grade, the stricter the rules on clarity, odour and microbiology throughout the internal network.
The hotel restaurant needs a separate quality for cooking, coffee, ice and dishwashing — reviews, occupancy and profit depend on it. For the bar and kitchen BWT makes the water+more line: filters for coffee machines, ice makers and professional dishwashers.
Treatment stages for hotels
A typical polishing scheme for hotels and adjoining business areas has five stages. The set changes after the raw-water analysis and the client’s requirements.
- Pre-filtration — automatic-wash strainers that start when the screen loads up. In Europe such filters are mandatory on municipal inlets: protection from sand, corrosion products and debris from supply-pipe repairs.
- Clarifying sorption — multimedia with coconut activated carbon, automatic backwash. Removal of solids and free chlorine, better colour, odour and taste.
- Softening — ion-exchange resin in automatic mode. Removes hardness salts that destroy heaters. Softened water is needed for the kitchen, drinks and clear ice, and does not dry the skin.
- Fine cartridge filtration — for elite hotels and restaurants where even the smallest solids are unacceptable. The water is absolutely clear.
- UV disinfection — no chemicals and no carcinogenic chlorination by-products, no overdose risk. An economical way to protect against bacteria and viruses, including Legionella.
